The Voice of Youth: An Encounter with Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas

University students had the opportunity to explore new perspectives on the challenges and opportunities of their generation, in a meeting that highlighted the importance of their participation in the present and future of Mexico.

On October 15, 2026, Texas State University welcomed Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas to the conference “Opening the Door to the Youth of Mexico,” held in the Great Hall Auditorium of Elisia Education Hub.

Organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Colón, the meeting brought together the university community, academic authorities and special guests in a space intended to promote critical thinking, the exchange of ideas and reflection on the role of youth in society.

The challenges of a new generation of young people

The transition from university to the professional world represents a stage of important decisions. Choosing a path, developing new skills, and finding opportunities to apply acquired knowledge are some of the challenges that accompany new generations.

In this context, the visit of Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas brought students closer to a perspective linked to citizen participation, public policies and the challenges facing Mexican youth.

One of these challenges is access to the first job, particularly in the face of the so-called “experience trap,“ a situation in which young people with academic preparation find it difficult to enter the labor market due to the requirements of prior experience.

This issue, addressed by Colosio Riojas in previous public interventions, allowed for contextualizing the importance of generating opportunities that connect university preparation with professional development.

To broaden perspectives and strengthen participation

Through “Opening the Door to Mexico’s Youth,” attendees had the opportunity to explore topics of public interest and reflect on the importance of participating in decisions that affect their communities. The participation of younger generations was central to an experience that highlighted the value of listening to diverse perspectives, questioning ideas, and developing a broader understanding of social challenges.

With a career that includes his service as a local representative in Nuevo León, mayor of Monterrey, and senator of Mexico, Colosio Riojas contributed his experience to the meeting in matters related to citizen participation, education, transparency, and social development.

University experiences that connect learning with reality

University education is also enriched through experiences that allow one to understand the environment, discover new perspectives and recognize the impact that individual decisions can have on society.

At Texas State University, encounters like this conference complemented the academic experience by bringing students closer to public figures and conversations about topics that influence their present and future. These meaningful dialogues encourage active listening and critical thinking among attendees.

This openness to new perspectives is also part of a globally minded education. Through international programs at Texas State University Querétaro and its sister university, Arkansas State University Querétaro, taught in English and following the American educational model, students can develop a broader worldview, connect with different cultures, and strengthen the skills needed to thrive in international professional environments. Consequently, gaining international exposure empowers future leaders to overcome modern challenges confidently. This education allows them to understand diverse realities, question ideas, and discover new possibilities for their future as proactive global citizens.

The visit of Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas represented an invaluable opportunity to strengthen reflection, broaden horizons, and recognize that the ideas, questions, and active participation of young people are essential elements for building the future of Mexico, fostering a generation deeply committed to democratic values, civic engagement, and social transformation across our society and beyond.
