Analyzing events that impact the global economy allows us to understand how decisions, markets, and international relations influence our daily lives.
Dr. Nadyra Rodríguez Arias, a full-time professor in the Business area at Elisia Education Hub, shared her perspective on these topics in El Economista, one of Mexico’s leading media outlets specializing in economics, finance, and business.
In her article, titled “No hace falta que falte el petróleo,” the professor analyzes how geopolitical tensions and market expectations can cause increases in the price of oil, even before there is an actual shortage.
This publication reflects the importance of having professors who contribute to the analysis of current events and who, from their academic experience, provide relevant perspectives on the challenges of the global economy.
Why does the price of oil rise before there is a shortage?
In her analysis, Dr. Rodríguez Arias explains that international markets react not only to what is happening in the present, but also to expectations about what might happen in the future.
Based on geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, especially around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important routes for global oil transport, the professor examines how the possibility of a supply disruption can alter the decisions of companies and investors.
In an uncertain environment, organizations may choose to secure inventory, diversify suppliers, purchase insurance, or invest in energy efficiency. When these decisions occur simultaneously, they affect international demand and prices, even without an actual decrease in supply.
The article points out that prices may rise not because oil is already scarce, but because market participants anticipate that it could become so.
This perspective allows us to understand how the economy relates to international politics, market behavior, and business decisions, demonstrating the importance of analyzing global events from different disciplines.
